26NHX2NHX2 belongs in the family of sodium-hydrogen exchangers that act as antiporrters that maintain the pH of actively metabolizing cells by controlling the balance of sodium. THe antiporters have 10-12 regions on the N-terminus and a large cytoplasmic region on the C-terminus. The 10-12 transmembrane regions contain 2 highly conserved regions and most of the regions share identities within the family , while the large cytoplasmic region is noted to have little similarity with other members in the family.
