39CCT3Tetrahymena thermophile ASH3 (Assistant for the prevention of Shock due to Heat) is homologous with TCP-1/cpn60 chaperonin family of heat shock proteins. This family plays a major role in cell growth by assisting with the folding of denatured or partially denatured polypeptides when heat shock occurs in the cell. Because they do not denature in a wide range of temperatures, they are an important domain of heat shock proteins, which are mainly found in prokaryotes, chloroplasts, and mitochondria.
